Overview

LA VIE will comprise Tivoli Muscat Hotel & Residences, 22 apartments, office space, and clubhouse amenities, overlooking the 18-hole Muscat Hills Golf Course. The design draws inspiration from landforms embraced by a coastline, bringing green terraces and walkable slopes to create an immersive experience that blends architecture and nature. The Chief Engineer role is to lead and manage all engineering operations during the pre-opening phase, ensuring the hotel’s technical infrastructure, equipment, and systems are ready for operation on opening day. The position requires hands-on management, strategic planning, and a proactive approach to facility maintenance and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Opening Engineering Operations : Oversee the setup, installation, and commissioning of all hotel systems and technical infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and building systems; ensure engineering works are completed according to plan, within budget, and in compliance with local codes and regulations; coordinate contractors and vendors; develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure operational readiness for opening day.
  • Team Leadership and Management : Recruit, train, and develop the engineering team; foster a collaborative, efficient, and service-oriented culture; implement training programs on hotel systems, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintenance and Safety : Ensure all engineering systems and equipment meet safety and performance standards before opening; regularly inspect systems; develop emergency protocols; collaborate with safety and security teams to comply with fire and life safety regulations.
  • Budget and Resource Management : Manage the engineering department’s budget; implement energy-efficient practices; oversee procurement of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Project Coordination and Reporting : Develop detailed reports on pre-opening engineering projects; coordinate with Project Management to meet construction timelines and integrate engineering requirements into design; maintain records for future reference and improvement.
  • Post-Opening Support : Provide technical support during the opening phase; ensure systems operate efficiently and the hotel is fully functional on opening; establish long-term maintenance strategies for assets and systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior engineering role in the hospitality industry, preferably in a pre-opening environment.
  • Proven experience in managing hotel engineering operations, including systems setup, maintenance, and safety compliance.
  • Strong technical knowledge in hotel infrastructure and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire / life safety).
  • Experience in leading a team, managing budgets, and coordinating large-scale technical projects.
  • Strong understanding of local regulations and building codes in Oman (or similar regional experience).
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to act quickly in an emergency.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm and effective approach during critical situations.
